Trips to Ireland plunge by 23.6pc in May

Trips to Ireland by overseas residents in May 2010 decreased to 502,500, a drop of 23.6pc compared to May 2009, the latest figures from the CSO reveals.

Meanwhile, Irish residents made 29,400 fewer trips within Ireland in May 2010, it said.

Visitors from Great Britain decreased by 30pc to 214,600 while trips to Ireland by residents of other Europe and North America decreased by 19.8pc and 16.7pc respectively. Trips to Ireland by residents of all other countries decreased by 8.1pc.
