Retail Excellence Ireland (REI), with the support of over 6,000 leading retail stores throughout Ireland, today launched a new Town and City Management Framework that will revitalise towns and cities across Ireland.
Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, was today on hand to launch the new initiative on behalf of REI. Speaking at the launch, Minister Phil Hogan said "I welcome this new initiative, developed by REI and leading retailers in Ireland, as it highlights some key recommendations which will help to reinvigorate towns and cities across Ireland. I would encourage all city and town stakeholders to get involved and use these key recommendations to improve the wellbeing of our towns and cities".
The REI Town and City Management Framework has been created to provide guidance and motivation to all city and town stakeholders and encourage them to work together to design and implement a plan which will revitalise towns and cities, and which in-turn will re-engage with citizens and customers alike.
The framework offers an insight into practical measures that should be considered for implementation in towns and cities across Ireland. International experience has indicated that the implementation of even some of these recommendations will benefit all stakeholders.
David Fitzsimons, Chief Executive Officer, Retail Excellence Ireland said "REI is committed to continuing to support and enhance the consumer retail experience by developing initiatives, such as this, and promote a vibrant and competitive world class retail industry in Ireland. Following the launch of this initiative, it is REI's intention to measure town management performance across the largest 100 towns and cities by way of citizen and stakeholder interviews. From this process, REI along with our media partners, Independent News and Media Group, will disseminate best town management practice in Ireland and will actively promote such practice in all towns and cities across Ireland".
