Over 48pc, or E42 billion, of Irish product sales in 2011 are classified as Chemical or Pharmaceutical products - the bulk of which is for export, the latest PRODCOM survey for Ireland shows.
The Food sector accounts for E17 billion of all product sales while the Computer, electronic, optical and electrical equipment product sales amount to E8.3 billion for the same period.
PRODCOM is the European Union's standard classification of production statistics. It contains nearly 3,800 products, of which approximately 42pc are produced and/or sold by Irish industrial enterprises.
