IMC finds gold in Wexford samples

Thursday, September 20 14:44:50

Irish prospector, IMC, today said it has found promising quantities of gold at its Co. Wexford and Co. Wicklow test sites.

Following gold sample results of up to 76.8g/t of gold, equivalent to 2.46 ounces per tonne, from rock grab samples taken from its Kilmichael Prospecting Licence Area in late 2011, recent follow up drilling in north Co. Wexford has intersected further encouraging gold results in Holes 1, 2 and 3, it said. Hole 1 intersected 2.85m averaging 1.68g/t Au, including a 1.05m section at 3.09g/t. Hole 2 intersected 5.80m averaging 1.08g/t Au, including 1.15m at 1.37g/t, 0.74m at 2.49g/t and 1.00m at 2.38g/t. In addition to this a 4.50m interval at a deeper level in the same hole has intersected base metal and associated precious metal values, including 1.50m at 0.70pc Pb, 2.24pc Zn, 7.9g/t Ag and 0.18g/t Au. Hole 3 intersected 0.25m at 9.64g/t Au and 3.7g/t Ag. This hole is on an east northeast strike trend from the well known gold occurrences documented at Tombreen and Mine Bridge. "These results show very promising grades, reflecting the polymetallic nature of mineralization in the area. Based on the results, IMC will continue to focus on this area over the coming weeks and months," said Managing Director Dr. Glenn Millar. "Drilling has also recently commenced in the highly prospective Goldmine River area of south Co. Wicklow. This area was the site of historic alluvial gold production, the scene of a gold rush in the late 18th century, where 9,000 ounces of gold were reportedly extracted".
