New car sales fall 4pc in August

There were 3,098 new cars sold in August, 4pc down on August last year, latest figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) said today.

New car sales are down 12pc for the year so far, it said.

Toyota is the best selling car make so far this year but the Ford Focus is the best selling model.

SIMI said that 23pc of cars sold this year were petrol while 74pc were diesel.

Commercial Vehicles (vans) were up 1pc in August but down 3pc for the year.
