The value of total stocks held by industry rose by E276.6m in the second quarter of 2012, following a decrease of E241.6m in the first quarter of 2012, latest figures from the CSO show.
The principal reasons for the second quarter change in the value of stocks were increases of E174.0m and E87.2m respectively in Work-in-Progress and Materials & Fuel. Finished Goods stocks also showed an increase of E35.2m while Goods Purchased for Resale stocks decreased by E19.8m.
The main sectors contributing to the rise in the value of stocks were basic pharmaceutical products and preparations sector with an increase of E143.9m following a decrease of E175.9m in the previous quarter.
Computer, electronic and optical products sector with an increase of E32.4m following a decrease of E13.8m in the previous quarter.
