Cable TV and communications provider, UPC, today unveiled Ireland's first Social TV application, TV Buzz.
TV Buzz is a free web based service, open to everyone, which allows people to talk about their favourite television programmes through a dedicated social channel.
TV Buzz monitors the top 10 socially trending programmes over 20 of the most popular UPC channels and the ranking is refreshed every five minutes. If people log in using their Facebook or Twitter accounts they can also see what their friends are saying about specific programmes.
Rhona Bradshaw, head of marketing at UPC said, "Social media has added a whole new dimension to watching television. Television is the second most discussed topic on social media which shows that people are now using social media to discuss what they are watching in real time."
"TV Buzz is a new way to interact with people while watching television and it's part of UPC's commitment to providing the best television service in Ireland. Whether you're watching your favourite soap or catching up on the latest US box sets through On Demand television you can follow the online conversation through one easy to use website."
