The key Summer tourism period between June and August of this year saw the total number of trips to Ireland fall by 2.0pc to 2,122,800 - an overall decrease of 44,000 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, latest CSO figures show.
Trips by residents of Great Britain - a top tourism market for Ireland - decreased by 6.0pc to 839,800 while the number of visitors from North America decreased by 2.8pc to 365,300.
Visitors from European Countries other than Great Britain increased by 2.1pc to 787,900 while visitors from Other Areas increased by 3.3pc to 129,800.
The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period June - August 2012 increased by 1.5pc to 2,075,300.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period June to August 2012 decreased by 0.3pc to 4,198,000 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier.
The period June to August 2011 saw an increase of 0.2pc from the corresponding period in 2010.
