SIPTU members at the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) and Aer Lingus have agreed to defer their planned industrial action that would have crippled flight schedules and to take part in talks at the Labour Relations Commission.
At a meeting at Dublin Airport this morning, SIPTU members 'reluctantly' agreed to defer the industrial action planned for Monday next 1st October.
The decision followed a request by the LRC yesterday that SIPTU members defer their action and that the DAA and Aer Lingus withdraw legal challenges against the union and that both parties enter discussions to resolve the issues which arise from the under-funding of the staff's pension scheme.
According to SIPTU Sector Organiser, Dermot O'Loughlin, the decision was made by the union's Industrial Action committees after five hours of discussions this morning and despite strong criticism by members of the unnecessary tactics used by both employers over recent days.
