SIPTU members at Clery's in Dublin are to hold a protest next Tuesday outside its store on O'Connell Street against the decision of Gordon Brothers, the new owners, to close the company pension scheme.
According to SIPTU Organiser, Graham Macken, union members are also concerned at the manner in which the new owners have treated the workers at the outlets they have closed including the Guiney's shops in Dublin and outlets in Blanchardstown, Naas, and Sandyford.
"As the company has failed to respond to our concerns and to meet their moral obligations union members from SIPTU and Mandate have decided to highlight their disgust and will protest peacefully on Tuesday (2nd October) outside Clerys on O'Connell Street. It is hoped that it will reconsider its position in relation to the manner in which staff have been treated in relation to the pension scheme and the closures of the other outlets," Graham Macken said.
