Unemployment rate unchanged in Sept

While there was a slight fall of 400 in the numbers signing on the Live Register last month, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 14.8pc, latest figures from the CSO show.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment total stood at 435,200 at the end of September, it said.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the most recent Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) was 14.8pc in the second quarter of 2012.

In unadjusted terms there were 429,335 people signing on the Live Register in September 2012. This represents an annual decrease of 8,106 (-1.9pc).

The trend in the overall Live Register continues to be one of movement within a small range.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register showed a monthly decrease of 100 males in September 2012, while females decreased by 300 over the same period.

The number of male claimants decreased by 8,199 (-2.9pc) to 273,789 over the year and female claimants increased by 93 (+0.1pc) to 155,546.

This compares with a decrease of 7,810 (-2.7pc) to 281,988 for males and an increase of 2,834 (+1.9pc) to 155,453 for females in the year to September 2011.
