Index shows services sector on the rise

The seasonally adjusted monthly services value index increased by 0.9pc in August 2012 when compared with July 2012 and there was an annual increase of 6.3pc, latest figures from the CSO show.

Transportation and Storage (+3.4pc), Accommodation and Food Service Activities (+3.2pc), Information and Communication (+1.8pc) and Wholesale and Retail Trade (+0.4pc) showed month on month increases in August 2012.

Other Services and Business Services showed month on month decreases of 1.9pc and 0.4pc respectively.

Transportation and Storage (+15.3pc), Wholesale and Retail Trade (+7.5pc) Information and Communication (+4.9pc), Accommodation and Food Service Activities (+4.7pc) and Business Services (+3.7pc) showed year on year increases in August 2012 when compared with August 2011. Other Services showed a year on year decrease of 2.2pc.
