The Kilkenny Group, retailers of Irish design and crafts for over 40 years, is shrugging off the consumer downturn with the opening of a new store on Dublin's Grafton Street.
Its latest store is the third new premises opened by the company in the past 12 months, creating 6 new jobs in the shop and bringing its total to 11 shops.
Over the past number of years, the Irish family retail company has enjoyed successful trading activity as more Irish consumers are embracing a 'buy Irish' mentality, it said.
This has led to increased turnover and profitability for the business, as they have expanded their portfolio of stores and added to the company's work force. The company has also re-launched its online store, www.kilkennyshop.com, to cope with changing consumer demands and also in a bid to improve the online shopping experience for customers.
"We are delighted to be opening our doors on one of the country's most iconic shopping streets, Grafton Street. As an Irish family company, we take pride in the fact that we are expanding our business on home soil and creating employment in these difficult times. Despite the challenging economic climate, we are continuing to support the Irish crafts industry to the very best of our abilities. Now, more than ever, there is a pressing need to buy locally and buy Irish - we hope that we are facilitating and encouraging consumers to do so as we grow our stores," said CEO of the Kilkenny Group, Marian O'Gorman.
