Ir Times sells Ireland.com to Tourism Ir

The Irish Times has sold its Ireland.com domain name to Tourism Ireland for E495,000.

The move is part of a digital content co-operating agreement between the Irish Time and Tourism Ireland to promote Ireland as a tourism destination. Tourism Ireland will use the ireland.com domain to attract more web traffic and enhance the promotion of Ireland overseas.

Subscribers to the ireland.com service have been told that the service will be discontinued from November 7. From that date, subscribers will no longer be able to send or receive messages to this account.

They will, however, be able to access their accounts until December 7 'for the purpose of transferring any data' saved on their accounts, a statement from Ireland.com said today.
