Taoiseach Enda Kenny will make his first official visit as Taoiseach to Paris today for a meeting with French President Francois Hollande. The Taoiseach is expected to raise the outcome of last Fridays European Union summit and Ireland's campaign for a deal on legacy debt at the meeting Today's meeting between Mr Kenny and President Hollande was arranged before the EU summit in Brussels last week.
After the summit, Chancellor Merkel said there would be no retrospective direct recapitalisation of banks by the ESM, only future debt. This was seen as a setback for Irish hopes of securing a deal on legacy debt. However, a German Government spokesman later said they would continue to co-operate closely with Ireland. The Taoiseach and the French President will also talk about issues likely to arise during Ireland's presidency of the EU which starts in January, such as reform of European farm policy.
After the meeting, the Taoiseach will visit the SIAL food fair, one of the largest in the world. Most of the 18 Irish companies participating are exhibiting on the Bord Bia stand which is highlighting Ireland's green and environmentally-sustainable production standards.
