JJB Sports Ireland to close 101 jobs go

Kieran Wallace of KPMG, the High Court appointed Liquidator to the Irish business division of JJB Sports has announced that the business is to close this evening with the loss of all 101 jobs.

The Irish business division of JJB Sports comprises of four retail stores and two leisure centres based in Dundalk, Limerick, Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley.

Mr Wallace said that, since his appointment on 1 October, he has been actively looking for a purchaser of the business.

"Regretfully, none has emerged from this process, which has resulted in its closure this evening," he said.

Mr Wallace said he has communicated to employees and is talking today to the members of the two leisure centres informing them that as membership cannot be fulfilled.

Any monies due to members will become a Creditor claim in the Liquidation.

Members have been asked to submit a claim to the Liquidator by 30 November, 2012.

"The outcome for Creditors is unknown at this time," he said.
