Visitor numbers up 1.6pc in Aug to Oct

In the period August - October 2012, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 1.6pc to 1,949,600 - an overall increase of 29,800 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, latest CSO figures reveal.

Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 14.9pc to 337,200 but the number of visitors from Great Britain decreased by 4.5pc to 802,700.

Visitors from European Countries other than Great Britain increased by 3.3pc to 700,500 while visitors from Other Areas increased by 1.7pc to 109,300.

The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period August - October 2012 increased by 3.1pc to 1,835,400.

The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period August to October 2012 increased by 2.3pc to 3,785,000 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. The period August to October 2011 saw a decrease of 3.2pc from the corresponding period in 2010.
