Bord Gais tenders for water meters

Bord Gais has put out a tender seeking to buy over a million water meters.

The tender is a further step in the semi-state company's role in setting up the new regulated water utility Irish Water which is due to begin supplying and billing for water from early 2014.

Industry sources say the value of the contract to supply the water meters would range between E40m and E50m.
