Monthly factory gate prices decreased by 0.9pc in December 2012 compared to an increase of 0.5pc recorded for December of last yea bringing the annual percentage change to 1.3pc in December, latest CSO figures show.
This compares to an increase of 2.7pc in the year to November 2012.
In the month, the price index for export sales decreased by 0.9pc, while the index for home sales decreased by 0.3pc. In the year there was an increase of 1.2pc in the price index for export sales (this can be influenced by currency fluctuations) and anincrease of 1.9pc in respect of the price index for home sales.
In the month, the most significant changes were increases in Beverages (+3.6pc), Fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (+1.4pc) and Meat and meat products (+0.6pc), while there were decreases in Computer, electronic and optical products (-1.7pc), Basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (-1.2pc) and Other food products including bread and confectionary (-0.6pc).
Contributing to the annual change were increases in Computer, electronic and optical products (+4.8pc), Other food products including bread and confectionary (+4.2pc) and Meat and meat products. (+2.2pc), while there were decreases in Dairy products (-6.1pc), Basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (-1.6pc) and Chemicals and chemical products (-1.6pc).
