The volume of retail sales fell by 0.1pc in December 2012 when compared with November 2012 while there was an annual decrease of 1.0pc, latest figures from the CSO showed today.
If Motor Trades are excluded, the volume of retail sales increased by 0.8pc in December 2012 when compared with November 2012 and there was also an annual increase of 0.8pc.
The sectors with the largest month on month volume increases are Department Stores (+6.3pc), Bars (+4.4pc) and Books, Newspapers and Stationery (+3.4pc).
The sectors with the largest monthly decreases were Furniture and Lighting (-7.1pc) and Other Retail Sales (-3.1pc).
There was no change in the value of retail sales in December 2012 when compared with November 2012 (0.0pc) and there was an annual decrease of 0.7pc.
If Motor Trades are excluded, there was a monthly increase of 0.3pc in the value of retail sales and an annual increase of 1.1pc.
