UPC say million subscriber mark reached

Thursday, February 14 10:13:04

Triple-play telecommunications and cable TV group, UPC, say they have now reached the one million customer mark thanks to strong demand for its broadband service.

UPC today announced strong growth for the fourth quarter and full-year ended December 31, 2012, saying it has invested over E500 million as part of the roll-out of its new fibre powered network across Ireland and now offers 150 Mbps broadband speeds to 40pc of all Irish homes.

Dana Strong, CEO of UPC Ireland: "In a fast-changing market our 2012 results demonstrate the underlying strength and appeal of UPC's business model. Our strategy of focusing on innovative, high quality products at great value is paying off. We are appealing to households who want the best digital experience. Independent research shows our customers spend more time online, use more devices and are more satisfied than other broadband customers. Over 85pc of our On Demand capable customers have used UPC On Demand TV since launch with over 14 million views of our great content to date. It's hugely popular and we plan even more exciting developments for our customers in the current year."

"Our investments are setting new standards and driving real choice and progress for consumers. Last year we broke new ground for our customers with our new 50Mb standard entry level product and we demonstrated that our network is capable of an extraordinary 1.4Gb speed. Since 2010, UPC has reduced its price per megabyte by 70pc giving customers unmatched value."
