Irish prospector, IMC Exploration Group Plc has been awarded two additional licences to dig for gold in Co Wicklow.
The permits from the Exploration and Mining Division of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, include the historic Avoca mine and are close to where IMC had its recent significant gold discovery.
These yielded 354g/t gold (grammes of gold per ton, equivalent to11.38oz/t gold).
IMC now holds four contiguous exploration licence areas in County Wicklow.
Dr Glenn Millar, Managing Director of IMC, described the announcement as a major step forward for the company. He said: "In keeping with IMC's strategy to build a world class gold resource, these new additional licences, along with our recent gold find, give IMC the capacity to immediately accelerate our exploration programme in this area."
The IMC co-operative came together in recent years with the aim of identifying mineral exploration opportunities in Ireland, adding value to prospecting licenses through combined experience/knowledge and applying new exploration models and techniques.
