Tralee gets 50 jobs from hospital re-do

Tuesday, February 19 14:04:39

Up to 50 jobs have been created in Tralee with the start of a multi-million euro redevelopment at the Bon Secours Hospital in the town.

A new Administration and Storage building, 125 additional car park spaces and a new vehicle entrance from Matt Talbot Road are currently under construction at the Hospital.

Donna Roche, Manager at the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee, said: "This is the first of two phases of a major new expansion programme at the hospital which is costing over E7 million. The need to expand has arisen over a number of years and the new development will result in the provision of additional space for the hospital's clinical outpatient departments. Phase one is expected to be completed in October while phase two, which is currently at the design stage, is due to start in mid-summer 2013."

Local construction company, Eamon Costello (Kerry) Limited, has been awarded the contract to carry out the work at the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee.

Triona Costello, Director and Quantity Survey with the construction company, said: "We anticipate it will create up to 50 local jobs between direct employees and employees of the various subcontractors we will be using on the project. It has also afforded us the opportunity to re-employ a number of our management team who had to emigrate in the short term due to the downturn in the construction industry. We are optimistic in creating a good working relationship with the Management & Staff at Bon Secours Tralee and hope to be part of the team for the future phases of works to be undertaken in the hospital."
