Preliminary estimates show that average weekly earnings were E695.80 in the last quarter of 2012, down from E697.65 a year earlier, according to latest CSO figures.
This annual decrease of 0.3pc compares with a revised increase of 0.6pc for the year to Q3 2012.
Average hourly earnings were E21.96 in Q4 2012 compared with E22.03 in Q4 2011, representing a drop of 0.3pc over the year.
The figures also show that average weekly paid hours were 31.7 in Q4 2012, which was the same as those recorded in Q4 2011.
Estimated public sector numbers stood at 381,800 (including the Semistate sector) in Q4 2012, a decrease of 9,100 (-2.3pc) from Q4 2011 when the total number employed was recorded as 390,900.
