Services index up a tad in January

The seasonally adjusted monthly services value index increased by 0.1pc in January 2013 when compared with December 2012 and there was an annual increase of 4.3pc, latest CSO figures show.

Administrative and Support Service Activities (+3.4pc), Wholesale and Retail Trade (+1.0pc), Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (+0.8pc) and Other Service Activities (+0.8pc) showed month on month increases when compared with December 2012. Information and Communication (-1.6pc), Accommodation and Food Service Activities (-1.4pc) and Transportation and Storage (-0.6pc) showed decreases when compared with the preceding month.

Administrative and Support Service Activities (+19.6pc), Information and Communication (+11.8pc), Transportation and Storage (+10.3pc) and Accommodation and Food Service Activities (+2.4pc) showed annual increases when compared with January 2012. Other Service Activities (-7.5pc) Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (-1.9pc), and Wholesale and Retail Trade (-1.3pc) showed decreases when compared with January 2012.
