There was a marginal rise in wholesale prices in February compared to the same months last year, latest CSO figures show.
Monthly factory gate prices showed no change in February 2013. This compares to a decrease of 0.6pc recorded for February of last year. As a result, the annual percentage change showed an increase of 0.2pc in February 2013, compared with a decrease of 0.4pc in the year to January 2013.
In the month, the price index for export sales decreased by 0.1pc, while the index for home sales increased by 0.9pc. In the year there was an increase of 0.1pc in the price index for export sales (this can be influenced by currency fluctuations) and an increase of 1.2pc in respect of the price index for home sales.
In the month, the most significant changes were increases in Wood and wood products (+2.8pc), Other non-metallic mineral products (+0.3pc) and Dairy products (+0.2pc), while there were decreases in Printing and reproduction of recorded media (-1.9pc), Chemicals and chemical products (-1.0pc) and Machinery and Equipment n.e.c. (-0.7pc).
Contributing to the annual change were increases in Grain milling, starches and animal feeds (+12.2pc), Beverages (+4.2pc) and Computer, electronic and optical products. (+3.7pc), while there were decreases in Chemicals and chemical products (-3.0pc), Basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (-2.3pc) and Other food products including bread and confectionary (-0.5pc).
