Munster Rugby has appointed selling agents Savills Ireland to sell a Prime Development Site at the east end of Musgrave Park fronting Kinsale Road and Tramore Road.
The site extends to approximately 1.11 acres and has extensive road frontage to Kinsale Road. Guide price quoted is E400,000.
One of the long term strategic objectives for Munster Rugby is to continue to play RaboDirect PRO 12 and other competitive matches in Cork to retain the significant support base in the south of the Province. On this basis Munster Rugby are currently planning to redevelop Musgrave Park which has a current capacity of 8,000. A new west stand has been designed which comprises 3,300 seats (increasing the overall capacity to 9,300) with dressing rooms, media and medical facilities and a function room. They have also incorporated covering the existing East Terrace to enhance the spectator experience at the venue.
It is envisaged that the development would commence in January 2014 which would allow Munster to play RaboDirect PRO12 games in Cork at the start of next season. The project would take an estimated 6-9 months to complete. One of the funding sources for this project is the sale of this land on the east side of the ground.
"One of the unique features of rugby in Munster is the existence of two major population centres in addition to the recent growth of the game across all six counties. The continual investment in player and supporter facilities needs to recognise this growth. It has always been Munster Branch policy to improve facilities at Musgrave Park and despite changes to the economic environment we are pursuing this agreed policy. The sale of the unused land can help Munster achieve what we believe the supporters and all the players deserve" Garrett Fitzgerald CEO of Munster Rugby.
