The key Summer holiday period of May to July saw the total number of trips to Ireland increase by 7.6pc to 2,084,600 - an overall increase of 146,800 compared to the same period twelve months earlier.
The CSO figures show that trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 20.5pc to 418,700.
Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 5.1pc to 760,400 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 11.9pc to 134,700.
Trips by residents of Great Britain increased by 3.3pc to 770,800.
The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period May - July 2013 increased by 3.2pc to 1,999,200.
The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 6.0pc for the period January - July 2013 when compared with the same period in 2012.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period May to July 2013 increased by 5.4pc to 4,083,800 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. For the period May to July 2012, there was an annual decrease of 1.3pc in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period.
