The key Summer months of June to August saw the total number of trips to Ireland increase by 6.7pc to 2,264,800 - an overall rise of 142,000 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, latest CSO data shows.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 19.9pc to 437,900.
Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 0.9pc to 794,700 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 17.6pc to 152,700. Trips by residents of Great Britain increased by 4.7pc to 879,500.
The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period June - August 2013 increased by 3.1pc to 2,139,200.
The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 6.5pc for the period January - August 2013 when compared with the same period in 2012.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period June to August 2013 increased by 4.9pc to 4,404,000 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. For the period June to August 2012, there was an annual decrease of 0.3pc in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period.
