The key July to September period this year saw the total number of trips to Ireland increase by 7.8pc to 2,261,000 - an overall increase of 164,300 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, latest CSO figures show.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 13.6pc to 415,000.
Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain increased by 1.2pc to 786,200 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 24.5pc to 155,000.
Trips by residents of Great Britain increased by 9.0pc to 904,700.
The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period July - September 2013 increased by 1.5pc to 2,032,600.
The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 6.4pc for the period January - September 2013 when compared with the same period in 2012.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period July to September 2013 increased by 4.7pc to 4,293,500 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. For the period July to September 2012, there was an annual decrease of 0.3pc in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period.
