The number of new private cars licensed for the first time decreased by 8.0pc to 1,307 last month compared to November 2012, latest CSO figures showed today.
Used (imported) private cars licensed for the first time were up 29.4pc to 4,486 for the same period.
In total, there were 70,709 new private cars licensed in the year to the end of November 2013, a fall of 6.3pc compared to the same period in 2012. The corresponding figure for 2013 in respect of used (imported) private cars was 46,581 and this was up 32.8pc from 2012.
The number of new goods vehicles licensed in November 2013 was 739, up 45.5pc from November 2012.
The total number of all new vehicles licensed during November 2013 was 2,499 compared with 2,237 during the same month in 2012 - an increase of 11.7pc.
In November 2013, of the 1,307 new private cars licensed, 352 (26.9pc) were petrol and 941 (72.0pc) were diesel.
The highest number of new private cars licensed in November 2013, classified by make, was Ford (815) followed by Volkswagen (722), Audi (501) and Toyota (466).
In November 2013, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 8,860 compared with 6,670 in the corresponding month last year - an increase of 32.8pc.
