The September to November period saw the total number of trips to Ireland increase by 8.8pc to 1,735,800 - an overall increase of 140,100 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, latest CSO figures show.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 6.9pc to 288,100. Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 6.6pc to 599,200 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 27.3pc to 114,800. Trips by residents of Great Britain increased by 8.9pc to 733,700. The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period September - November 2013 decreased by 2.8pc to 1,520,300.
The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 7.1pc for the period January - November 2013 when compared with the same period in 2012.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period September to November 2013 increased by 3.0pc to 3,256,100 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. For the period September to November 2012, there was an annual increase of 4.0pc in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period. See tables 1 and 2.
