Planning permissions down 16pc in year

In the fourth quarter of 2013, planning permissions were granted for 1,556 dwelling units, compared with 1,851 units for the same period in 2012, a decrease of 15.9pc, latest CSO figures show.

The fourth quarter figures also show that: planning permissions were granted for 1,394 houses in the fourth quarter of 2013 and 1,420 in the fourth quarter of 2012, a decrease of 1.8pc.

Planning permissions were granted for 162 apartment units, compared with 431 units for the same period in 2012, a decrease of 62.4pc.

One-off houses accounted for 41.1pc of all new dwelling units granted planning permission this quarter.

The total number of planning permissions granted for all developments was 3,383. This compares with 3,320 in the fourth quarter of 2012, a increase of 1.9pc.

Total floor area planned was 751 thousand square meters in the fourth quarter of 2013. Of this, 39.3pc was for new dwellings, 39.5pc for other new construction and 21.2pc for extensions. The total floor area planned decreased by 1.6pc in comparison with the same quarter in 2012.
