Legal history made in examinership today

Thursday, April 03 15:31:34

Legal history was made today when Joseph Walsh of Hughes Blake Chartered Accountants was appointed examiner to Celbridge Playzone in Naas Circuit Court by Judge Gerard Griffin.

It marks the first time an examiner has been appointed through the Circuit Court, with all previous examinerships taking place in the High Court.

In making the appointment, Judge Griffin noted that legal history had been made and wished the company the best of luck.

Celbridge Playzone operates a children's play centre in Celbridge and has 33 employees.

Legislation permitting Circuit Court examinership for companies of up to E8.8m turnover or less than 50 employees was introduced on Christmas Eve in 2013 as a means of making the process more accessible and affordable for small and medium sized firms.
