Between March and May of this year, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 7.5pc to 1,904,300 - an overall increase of 132,600 compared to the same period twelve months earlier.
The CSO figures show that trips by residents of Great Britain increased by 11.9pc to 812,800 while trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 5.0pc to 296,400.
Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 3.4pc to 698,900 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 10.6pc to 96,200. The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period March - May 2014 increased by 0.6pc to 1,527,100.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period March - May 2014 increased by 4.3pc to 3,431,400 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier.
For the period March - May 2013, there was an annual increase of 4.0pc in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period.
