Irish firm withdraws skincare products

Friday, July 04 12:30:06

Irish company Dermosciences Ltd has decided to discontinue two of its products after reports that they contained chemicals prohibited in cosmetics.

They were found to contain two scheduled poisons: hydroquinone and tretinoin.

The firm's Dermaceutic Spot Cream and Dermaceutic Spot Peel Cream, were tested and found to contain the substances, which, according to Cosmetics Europe, are not allowed to be used in skin care cosmetics in the EU.

Dermosciences told online industry magazine, Chemical Watch, "Despite strict controls, we have not received satisfactory responses from our manufacturing partner on how this could happen and how this can be prevented in the future. Dermosciences has decided to permanently discontinue Spot Peel and Spot Cream and will no longer work with the contract manufacturer which exclusively supplied the products."

The company says none of its other Dermaceutic products are affected. It declined to answer further questions.
