Star Wars 7 to shoot on Skellig Island

Thursday, July 24 12:40:43

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has confirmed to that Skellig Michael, a remote rock off the coast of Kerry with an ancient early Christian monastery, will be used as a location for the next Star Wars movie.

The spokesperson added that this production is being fully supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and the Irish Film Board.

Star Wars: Episode VII began shooting earlier this year with filming locations based in Abu Dhabi and London.

It is not yet known when filming will begin on Skellig Michael.

Production was delayed in June after Harrison Ford broke his leg when filming at Pinewood Studios outside of London.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for release on December 18th, 2015.
