In the period April to June 2014, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 12.3pc to 2,126,600 - an overall increase of 233,600 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, latest CSO figures show.
Trips by residents of Great Britain increased by 15.2pc to 837,700 while trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 12.8pc to 395,600. Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 9.3pc to 770,600 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 11.4pc to 122,600. The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period April - June 2014 increased by 2.2pc to 1,790,800.
The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 10.3pc for the period January - June 2014 when compared with the same period in 2013.
The total number of trips (Irish residents' trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period April - June 2014 increased by 7.5pc to 3,917,400 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier.
For the period April - June 2013, there was an annual increase of 2.8pc in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period.
