An unknown number - probably thousands - of public service staff such as Gardai and nurses as well as an unknown amount of private sector workers haven't been paid today because a glitch at Bank of Ireland.
The banks said they are investigating reports of payment problems after workers complained they had not received their wages this morning.
The bank says it is aware of reports from customers about problems with payments they were due to receive into accounts this morning.
It has now been reported that salaries should be in worker's bank accounts by tomorrow morning.
A spokesperson says the bank is investigating the situation.
However, the bank said that it is not aware of any problem with their systems at the moment.
The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform is also looking into reported problems with payments for public servants.
