Tesco create 49 new jobs in Dundalk

Thursday, August 07 12:37:27

Tesco Ireland today said it has created 49 new jobs at its Tesco Extra Dundalk store.

The new store, located at the site of the old Dundalk shopping centre which originally opened in 1974, took 14 months to rebuild and is 55,300 square foot. The store employs 174 people in total, 90pc of whom are from the local area, with Tesco now employing almost 500 in Co. Louth and over 15,000 people nationally.

Speaking on behalf of Tesco Ireland Chief Operating Officer Geoff Byrne said: "At Tesco we work hard to invest in local communities and to create local employment opportunities. We are delighted to welcome Minister Ged Nash to our new store opening today and we take pride in creating 49 new roles at Tesco Dundalk, with 28 jobs going to those who were previously out of work which is a great boost for the local community. We're also delighted that our colleagues who worked in the previous store have transferred to the new store meaning that we have a total of 174 people working in Tesco Extra Dundalk. We have invested E28 million in the store refurbishment and we hope all of our customers enjoy the new store layout which is designed to provide an enhanced shopping experience with an increased focus on fresh local produce."

The store was officially opened today by Minister of State for Business and Employment at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Ged Nash.
