Dublin is 5th friendliest city in world

Friday, August 08 14:20:55

Dublin has been ranked as the fifth friendliest city in the world in the latest Conde Nast Traveler's annual Readers' Choice Survey.

It found that Dublin is a "vibrant city" that's a "bibliophile's dream".

Apart from being "green, lush, and very walkable," it's also "the kind of place you stop in for a drink in a local pub, only to end up chatting with the locals for the next five hours."

Auckland, New Zealand came first followed by Melbourne, Australia; Victoria, BC, Canada and Charleston, South Carolina, US.

According to the magazine's readers, the most unfriendly cities in the world are Johannesburg, South Africa; Cannes, France; Moscow, Russia; Paris, France and Marseilles, France.

Welcoming the news, Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland chief executive, said: "Again and again, our research shows us that the friendliness of our people is one of our unique selling points. It is the warm welcome and the 'craic' here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes Dublin and Ireland such a great choice for a short break or holiday. This accolade by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine gives Tourism Ireland a wonderful platform to continue to promote Dublin and the island of Ireland throughout the world as a 'must-see' destination. With world-class events like the this month's Dublin Horse Show and the upcoming Dublin Fringe Festival and Dublin Theatre Festival, as well as the city's extremely rich heritage and culture, wonderful food and accommodation choices, Dublin is set to welcome many more overseas visitors this year, coming to experience all that this great city has to offer."
