Aldi have announced today that they have opened their fifth store in Waterford. This brings the total number of Aldi stores in Ireland to 117. The first Aldi store in Ireland opened in November 1999.
Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled the number of Irish suppliers it works with, which helps to maintain over 34,000 jobs across the Irish food industry. More than 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers.
Furthermore, Aldi has established solid roots in many of Ireland’s local communities having developed longstanding partnerships with numerous Irish producers. Suppliers from the local area include Glen Fruits of Dungarvan, which supplies Aldi with fresh Irish strawberries and cheesemaker Eamonn Lonergan based in Knockanore, who produces Aldi’s Specially Selected Oakwood Smoked Cheddar Cheese.
Manager of Aldi’s new Ardkeen store. Donncha Buckley said, "We are delighted to open our new Ardkeen store and look forward to welcoming many new customers from the local area. Each Aldi store we have opened so far has been a fantastic success and we are looking forward to serving the local community."
