Athlone-based DPD Ireland, who employ 840 people in Ireland, has today announced it is planning a major revamp across its European operations.
The company has over 8,000 active trading customers across all sectors. E-commerce growth has impacted DPD's business greatly. Historically, deliveries were primarily to business addresses. Now, 40% of all deliveries are to private consumers.
"This is an exciting development for DPDgroup, both across Europe and particularly here on the island of Ireland. DPD Ireland already handles over 50,000 parcels daily; we foresee tremendous growth in the domestic market, due to the increase in online retailing. We've recently launched our new Parcel Wizard service to provide more flexibility around delivery for customers and there are other developments in the pipeline that we'll be announcing soon.
By 2020, Irish e-commerce shoppers are forecast to spend €13bn. It's envisaged that 60% of this shopping will be packaged in jiffy bags or small boxes - ideal for the DPD Ireland network. For those employed by DPD's facility in Athlone, or in any of our 38 depot locations, the future looks bright."
