Twenty per cent of Irish people would put a €20,000 lotto win towards a deposit on their first home; 9% would use it to help pay off a mortgage; 12% would use it to re-style their home; and 10% would opt to invest in a savings account. Surprisingly only 3% would use the cash for a sun holiday.

This is according to a survey carried out by the Irish Independent.

This comes after the Irish Independent together with the Sunday Independent and the National Lottery have today announced that every reader will be in with a chance to win a share of €100,000.

There will be  €20,000 up for grabs in weeks one, two and three; €10,000 in weeks four and five; and two lucky winners will receive €10,000 each in week six.

The partnership is developed in celebration of the launch of the National Lottery’s ‘Bigger Better Lotto’ game this weekend which will run daily in the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent from 6th September.

Marketing and Promotions Manager with the Irish Independent, Arlene Regan said, "The Irish Independent and Sunday Independent are delighted to team up with the National Lottery for this exciting giveaway to our loyal readers.

"We are expecting a high volume of applications for this once off promotion and look forward to providing our readers with their share of the €100,000 prize fund."

Head of Marketing with the National Lottery, Eddie Banville added, "New Bigger Better Lotto is an exciting game that offers bigger jackpots and more ways to win to our players.

"Our partnership with the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent will bring the fun and excitement of the new game directly to readers over the next few weeks and we look forward to rewarding the weekly lucky winners with their share of the significant €100,000 prize fund."
