An Enterprise Ireland trade mission to South Africa commences today and will run for for four days taking in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The mission will be led by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan. He will be accompanied by Julie Sinnamon, the CEO of Enterprise Ireland as well as 35 Irish companies. The mission has been co-ordinated by Fred Klinkenberg, Enterprise Ireland’s Country Manager, South Africa and his team in the market.

Sub-Sahara Africa is the 2nd fastest growing region in the world and home to 8 of the world’s 15 fastest growing economies. It currently has GDP growth of 5% and a population of 1.2bn in 54 countries.

It is hoped the mission will build on the existing economic links with South Africa and, in a wider context, Sub Sahara Africa. A series of high level meetings will serve to bolster productive political and diplomatic relations necessary for moving forward on the various trade, investment and commercial agendas. It will reinforce the huge potential for innovative Irish companies in the fast growing Sub Sahara Region which will ultimately mean jobs in Ireland.
