Chartered Accountants Ireland announce new Chief Executive

The Council of Chartered Accountants Ireland has announced the appointment of Barry Dempsey as Chief Executive of Chartered Accountants Ireland with effect from 30 July 2017. 

Barry will succeed Pat Costello, who will work with Barry over a period of managed transition until the end of July 2017.  Barry’s appointment follows a thorough and competitive process overseen by Council.

Prior to joining the Institute, Barry held the position of Chief Executive of the Irish Heart Foundation. Before this, Barry held the position of Managing Director of Peter Mark and Chief Executive of the Irish Cancer Society.  He has also served as Chairman of the Council of the Irish Management Institute. Barry holds an MBA from Trinity College, Dublin.
 
Commenting on the appointment, Institute president Liam Lynch said, "On behalf of our 25,000 members around the globe, I would like to welcome Barry as Chief Executive. He will lead the Institute’s executive team through the exciting and challenging period ahead. In his distinguished career to date, Barry has shown all the skills that will be vital in building on our reputation as the premier Irish business professionals, trusted advisors who are respected around the globe."
