Cook Medical appoints Irishman to lead Global endoscopy division in US

It was announced today that Cook Medical, one of the World’s largest privately held medical technology companies which employs 850 people in Ireland, has appointed Mr Barry Slowey as President of its Winston-Salem facility based in North Carolina, US. 
 
As President of the Cook Winston-Salem facility, the Global headquarters of the company’s endoscopy division, Mr Slowey will lead the 600-strong team in managing the various functions of the North Carolina facility including regulatory, quality, R&D, manufacturing, finance, sales and marketing. 
 
Mr Slowey began his career as the European Marketing Manager at Cook Medical Ireland in 1996. He later became the European Sales and Marketing Manager for Endoscopy before moving to the US. 

Having joined the company as its second employee in the Limerick facility twenty years ago, Mr Slowey moved to the US in 2002 as Global Sales Director. Mr Slowey will continue to maintain responsibility for Cook Medical’s Endoscopy division as part of his new role.
 
Cook Medical specialises in the development of minimally invasive technologies for vascular and non-vascular surgery. From its Irish operation, based in Castletroy, Limerick, Cook Medical develops, manufactures and distributes medical devices, including stents and catheters, exporting worldwide.
 
Commenting on his new appointment, Mr Slowey said, "Over my twenty years working with Cook Medical, I have seen the medical technology sector develop into one of the world’s most innovative and advanced industries. Today it is seen as a key growth sector in global economies. The devices being produced are changing healthcare practices throughout the world and are enhancing patients’ quality of life while reducing healthcare costs. Cook Medical is playing an integral part in this progression and I look forward to leading the team along this exciting journey.”
