It was announced this week that New Ireland Assurance Company has appointed Michael Murphy as Managing Director.
Michael's appointment follows an extensive global market search, conducted on behalf of the Board of New Ireland. It is anticipated that he will commence in the role in July. Mick Sweeney, who has been acting Interim Managing Director during the period of the recruitment process, will return to a senior position in the Bank of Ireland Group at that time.
Having held various senior executive roles with a range of insurers and consultancies, Michael brings to New Ireland over 25 years’ experience of working across all areas of life, pensions, investments, health and general insurance in Ireland and globally.
Michael joins New Ireland from Willis Towers Watson where he was Managing Director and Global Leader of its Risk Consulting and Software Business, a market-leading provider of consultancy, software and technology solutions to the insurance sector, which has more than 1,200 employees, operates in more than 35 countries, and works with more than 75% of insurers globally.
He has advised insurance businesses worldwide on a range of matters of core importance to their businesses, including strategy, future business growth, digitalisation, customer centricity and ongoing change in the sector.
Commenting on the new appointment, Chairman at New Ireland, Pat Healy said, "Michael brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this important role, and has an exceptional track record of growing businesses and delivering strategic transformation."
He added, "His appointment reflects the ambition of the Board of New Ireland - and the Bank of Ireland Group - to grow our position in this important sector and to continue providing excellent customer propositions across all of our distribution channels.
