Insolvencies fall by 27 per cent

According to new research by Vision-net.ie, April was a positive trading month for Irish businesses, with the number of insolvencies falling by 27%, when compared with the same period last year.

Eighty three Irish companies were declared insolvent in April. Liquidator appointments fell by 32% on last year (58 v 85). Receiverships were down by 43% (21 v 37) and four companies had an examiner or interim examiner appointed to them in April.

The hospitality sector was most affected by insolvencies this month with 15 insolvencies – an increase of 50% compared to April 2014. 
 
Furthermore, Dublin accounted for 35% of all insolvencies – down over 15% on the same period in 2014 (50.4%). Over 8% of insolvent companies were based in Cork – up 5% on last April.
