The Reputations Agency has today released its latest annual Country RepTrak® 2019 study. The study is commissioned annually by The Reputations Agency and Reputation Institute.

The study took place through an online questionnaire among 58,000 members of the general public in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK and US.

The global study measures the reputation of the 55 countries based on the evaluation of 17 attributes grouped into the following three dimensions that drive a country’s reputation: Appealing Environment (with a 38.2% reputation weighting), Effective Government (37%), and Advanced Economy (24.7%).  Ireland’s re-entry to the top 10 in 2019 reflects a steady improvement in rankings over the last number of years.

Ireland has been ranked in tenth position by the general public across former G8 nations (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK and the US), out of 55 countries surveyed. This year Ireland has risen one position from 11th to tenth place and re-enters the top 10 rankings, ahead of Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the UK.

Sweden is the country with the world’s best reputation, according to the study and all other Nordic countries – Norway, Denmark and Finland each also appear in the top 10.

The Top 10 countries in the 2019 Country RepTrak® are:
1. Sweden
2. Switzerland
3. Norway
4. Finland
5. New Zealand
6. Canada
7. Denmark
8. Australia
9. Netherlands
10. Ireland

Commenting on the survey, Managing Director at The Reputations Agency, Niamh Boyle said, "As a small country, Ireland’s strong performance in this study is excellent news in an uncertain political international climate, particularly as we look to showcase our country to international visitors and investors. Ireland proved to have both a strong reputation and a strong awareness level amongst the former G8 countries. Attracting foreign direct investment, tourists, high-skilled workers and international students are all facilitated by having a strong country reputation.  In addition, the former G8 countries are important trading partners and sources of revenue for Ireland."

She added, "Therefore, improving our reputation scores amongst people from these nations helps us promote Irish products abroad and is very positive for our economy."
